A Macro Perspective on China’s Choice in Old-age Support at Home

Old-age support at home is the mode of old-age support that the Chinese government has kept advocating vigorously. Previous studies on this support pattern mainly look at the needs of the older people for family and familial affection. It is suggested in this paper that there is macro background for the proposing of old-age support at home in China, which is a product of China’s socio-economic and cultural development and also an integral component of the policy system dealing with population ageing in the countries of the world.
